Wishing on the Black Stars

Read Time:1 Minute, 14 Second

The World Cup, being held in Africa for the first time in its 80 year history, is especially thrilling for the continent and its host nation South Africa.  Six African teams began the tournament which kicked off about two weeks ago and as the first round of tournament is coming to a close, chances for an African World Cup victory is looking slim.

Prior to the start of the tournament, TsehaiNY conducted a poll asking readers which African team they thought had the best chance of winning.  The top three countries with the most votes were: Ghana (38%), Ivory Coast (30%), and Cameroon (14%).  With all but one African teams out or needing a miracle to advance, the best chance for going forward to the knockout stage rests upon the Black Stars of Ghana.

Group D leader, Ghana squares off against Germany today at 2:30pm (ET) in a match where The Black Stars can advance with just a Draw.  However this is not going to be an easy game and Ghana could still be eliminated depending on the outcome of its performance against Germany and the result of the game between Australia and Serbia.

Excitement is widespread in South Africa and the continent.  Today South Africans, as well as Africans and countless people from across the globe will be blowing their vuvuzelas, glued to their TV sets, clinging to the radio, or refreshing the score on Google while deeply rooting for the Black Stars of Ghana.
