Which African Team Has the Best Shot of Winning the 2010 World Cup?

From June 11, 2010 – July 11, 2010 the World will be tuned to the phenomenon which is the World Cup and for the first time in its 80-year history, it is being held in an African Nation.

South Africa will host the one month soccer extravaganza and Africa will be represented by six countries: Algeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and South Africa.

Never in the history of the World Cup has an African team reached the semifinals let alone win the cup.  In fact, the closest an African team got to winning the World Cup was reaching the quarterfinals in 1990 & 2002.  Although still a long shot, the odds are not impossible.

According to Betfair.com the odds of an African team winning the 2010 World Cup is 19/1.  When you consider the fact that the World Cup is being played in “home-turf” will 2010 finally be the year that an African team wins it all?
