Ghana Eliminates Team USA, Advances into the Quarterfinals

Read Time:1 Minute, 5 Second

(TsehaiNY.com)  Four years ago the Black Stars of Ghana eliminated Team USA in the first round of competition and today Team USA sought revenge.

Celebrities and dignitaries like Kobe Bryant, Mick Jagger and former President Bill Clinton showed their support for Team USA but when it was all over, the Black Stars remained victorious winning 2-1 in additional time and advancing into the quarterfinals.

The Black Stars dominated the first half scoring within the first five minutes of the game.  In the second half of play however, Team USA was the aggressor.  They came close to scoring a few times until a penalty kick by Clint Dempsey tied the game at one.

At the end of regulation, it would remain an even at 1-1 and if Ghana was to qualify to the quarterfinals, they would have to do it in additional time as the two African teams have done in the past.

In additional time the Black Stars scored quickly as Asamoah Gyan scored an impressive goal within the first five minutes.

With the win against Team USA, the Black Stars will continue to carry the Africa flag into the quarterfinals against Uruguay, and with a win attempt to wonder into uncharted territory for an African team in the World Cup; the semifinals.
