Ethiopia’s Dibaba sprints past Masai

(AP) NAIROBI, Kenya — Ethiopia’s Olympic champion Tirunesh Dibaba has beaten Kenya’s world champion Linet Masai in the women’s 10,000 meters at the African Athletics Championships.
Dibaba won Saturday’s race in 31 minutes 51.39 seconds. She outsprinted Masai in the last lap after trailing her most of the race. Fellow Ethiopian Haileyesus Melkamu was second and Masai finished third.
Dibaba said Saturday it was especially sweet to win in Kenya, Ethiopia’s traditional rival in track events.
