APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) A prison building has collapsed in western Ethiopia, killing at least nine prisoners, while injuring dozens, Ethiopia police said here on Wednesday.

The prison collapse was attributed to the heavy rainfall in the area. It is reported that there were over 30 prisoners in the collapsed cell.

The current heavy rains in Ethiopia are causing a lot of damage in several parts of the country.

A few weeks ago, lightning killed three people and their livestock.

The rain has also interrupted electricity supply for the past few days in some parts of Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian rainy season usually starts by the end of May and ends in mid-September.
