Promising Ethiopian Athlete Attacked While Jogging In Limerick

From: Clareherald; A resident of Knockalisheen, near Meelick in County Clare (Ireland), is recovering after being attacked while jogging on the outskirts of Limerick City on Thursday afternoon.

22-year-old Lebeta Debela from Ethiopia received serious head injuries and was knocked unconscious by two male attackers on the Knockalisheen Road.  He was later brought to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle but is expected to make a full recovery.

Mr. Debela, who has been in the region since April 2009, is a member of the Limerick Athletics Club and recently won the half marathon stage of the Great Limerick Marathon.  Debela also won the Kilnaboy 10 Mile Road Race in April and the Spanish Point Salty Faces 10k at the end of May, narrowly beating Clare’s Seamus Power.
