25th anniversary of Live Aid marked Tuesday

Twenty-five years ago Tuesday, Live Aid — organized by Boomtown Rats lead singer Bob Geldof — took place to help raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia.
The concert was broadcast on July 13, 1985 to over two-billion viewers across 60 countries around the world.
Geldof said he wasn’t sure if the benefit concert would all come together.
“I was frightened that nobody would show up, I had no contracts, 17 hours of the Boomtown Rats would have been a little too much even for me,” Geldof said.
The event would be simulcast in Wembley Stadium in London, England and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Penns.
Some of the biggest artists that took part in the concert included Queen, David Bowie, Sting, Paul McCartney, Madonna, U2, Led Zeppelin and Canadians Neil Young and Byran Adams.
Twenty years later, Geldof would once again put together another benefit concert, this time called Live 8, in which 1,000 musicians took part with an estimated three-billion people watching.
