Painting the town: Ethiopian artist enjoys creative stay in Stanford
By TODD KLEFFMAN amnews.com: Ethiopian artist Tibebe Terffa’s “Corralling Colors” exhibit of paintings completed in Stanford will open Monday at Lincoln County Public Library, 310 N. Third St., Stanford. An artist’s reception will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
STANFORD — As his time in Stanford draws to a close, Tibebe Terffa has more than 20 paintings committed to canvas and a head full of good memories to show for his 10-week stay.
“It’s mission accomplished, I believe,” said Terffa, unfamiliar with one of President Bush’s most infamous premature calculations.
Indeed, since arriving from his native Ethiopia in late May, Terffa has been on something of a creative tear. Initially, he hoped to make 10 paintings while working as artist-in-residence but he easily lapped that goal.
“I never thought I could paint all these paintings. It has been very inspiring. I am having a very pleasant time,” he said inside the little home on Mill Street that has been his home and studio. “I didn’t have much stressful times. There’s not much stress reflected in these paintings.”
Terffa, 62, is a warm and open person who has been painting and teaching art most of his life. He is one of Ethiopia’s premier painters and his work has been exhibited and collected in several countries… Read More
