Kaethe Hostetter – Debo Band Veteran – Finds Roots in Ethiopia with Zena Bel Band
From Addis Tunes: Have you heard the Debo Band? Just in case you haven’t had the opportunity yet, the Debo Band is an unlikely confluence of Ethiopian pentatonic scales and vocal styles, American soul and funk and the instrumentation of Eastern European brass bands. This cadre of musical pioneers took a trip to Ethiopia to perform last year, and Kaethe Hostetter – a multi-talented violinist – decided to stay on to perfect her craft. Kaethe and her newly formed Zena Bel Band brought Azmari music to the U.S., and we caught up to them while on tour.
