In a PR released today, Home Properties Inc. congratulated their employee Berhan Teferi for becoming a U.S. Citizen during a ceremony held in the White House with President Barack Obama.

Berhan Teferi, 27, works as a service technician in Alexandria, Virginia and is also a member of the U.S. army reserves. The ceremony held at the White House Rose Garden also included 23 other inspiring immigrants who currently serve in the U.S. Military.  The official swearing by President Obama took place on Friday April 23, 2010.

Lisa Fitterer, a property manager with Home Properties Inc., was surprised at how humble Berhan was regarding his recent White House experience stating, “We were shocked when he [Berhan] showed us pictures of himself with President Obama.”

A member of the Army Reserves since November 2008, Teferi came to the United States five years ago and will be deployed to Iraq this coming August for a one-year tour of duty.

During the ceremony President Obama said, “It’s the spirit that brought a refugee from Ethiopia and led him to enlist in the U.S. Army because, he said, he wanted to give back to the country that has ‘given me the opportunity to be all that I can be.’  And today we congratulate Berhan Teferi.”
