On a fall afternoon, the Fried’s residence, which is adorned by both American and Ethiopian flags in front, is busy with last minute preparations.  On this particular day the children are getting ready to go back to school.  Their oldest son, Desalegne, a freshman in high school is missing and with good reason.

Desalegne, who couldn’t imagine playing on a real turf field with uniforms and cleats in Ethiopia, has just made the Junior Varsity team and is at practice.  “Being part of that soccer team is a dream come true for my son,” says Randi.

CNN reveals Top 10 Heroes of 2008

(CNN) -- For Liz McCartney, selection as one of the Top 10 CNN Heroes of 2008 could not have come at a better time.

"With the recent storms in Texas and southwest Louisiana, we have experienced a sudden drop in volunteers," said McCartney, whose St. Bernard Project helps Hurricane Katrina survivors rebuild their homes just outside New Orleans, Louisiana.

"While other areas need help, this recognition is letting the American people know that the New Orleans area still matters," McCartney said.

The insta-polls, which provide viewers with a somewhat skewed but important insight into how each candidate fared say, by and large, that Obama scored a victory in the second debate.

NBC's focus group of undecided Pennsylvania voters had the Illinois Democrat winning by roughly a 60-40 split. Frank Luntz's focus group, over at Fox, showed undecided voters leaning towards Obama because of his position on health care. CBS's focus group of independents had the Democratic nominee winning the debate at 39 percent to McCain's 27 percent, with 35 percent of the respondents saying it was a tie. Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a Democratic polling firm, had a focus group of undecideds leaning to Obama by a margin of 42 percent to 24 percent.
